Sonic Team have Finally done it !!!!!!!
Sonic team have finally been able to make a 3D sonic game worthy of the blue hedgehogs name. Truly this game is a work of art. The graphics in this game are superb, colourful and significantly better than PS2 and X Box versions, the controls are fairly simple and responsive but it will take you the first couple of levels to really get use to them.

In between you are treated to a fmv and these look even better than the in game graphics. Unfortunately Sonic team are still unable to programme a camera to keep up with the supersonic hedgehog but only on few occasions and this can be easily sorted by the manual overide camera.

The characters are gr8 and unbelievably the voice overs arent that bad either with tails really being the only one to let it down and of course theres the annoying sound of Knuckles sayin poo every time you use his special attack but these are minor glitches in what is really a superb game.

If you enjoy adventure games, high speed, or just the hedgehog i definately reccommend this as a must for any gamecube owner or sonic fan.

5*s well deserved well done sonic team.

A Good game, but not a Great game
Being a fan of Sonic from his Mega Drive days, i thought that the idea of playing as 3 Characters at once would be fantastic. In that aspect, I was not dissapointed.

the 3 types of characters you can paly as are the Speed charcters whic are Sonic, Shadow, Amy and Espio, they focus on the speed aspect and are good for runnig past or confronting enemies. The Power characters are next and are Knuckles, Omega, Big and Vector, these characters are good at destroying a large amount of enemies at a time with relative ease but arnet as fast as the speed characters. Finally you have the Flying Characters who are, Tails, Rouge, Cream and Charmy, these arent as good for flying but can get out of dangerous areas quickly. You switch between the 3 characters by pressing either Y or X and the change is immediate. You are not actually controlling the charcters but actually the lead charcter of the formation, in the case of speed formation, a character like Shadow or Sonic would lead.

You can choose from any of the 4 teams and progress on their story as much as you want, and then continue a different teams story. A nice idea if the story as the story has actually been thought through and makes a dgree of sense. The game features the emblem system that was present from Sonic Adventure 2 and by collecting more emblems you unlock more features, it is just a shame that it only unlocks extra multiplayer modes whic arent particularly fun to play.

The controls are a bit of a let down as they suffer the same problems that most of the 3D sonic games have been faced with. These are issues like jumping and doing a speed attack only to find the camera angles innexplicably changed, which results in you falling to your death, again. With the Power characters, when you press the puch button, the character moves forward a few steps and tends to result in your team plunging to their death. When you realise how to avoid problems like this then you can actually start to enjoy the game, but before that point it can be very irritating.

The only other problem the game suffers from is a lack of lifespan, once you complete all of the stories, there is very little to do except unlock the eblems which only give you some poor multiplayer games. the game will quickly be gathering dust on the shelf.

The graphics cant be falterd and are given 9 out of 10. The songs arent that bad but the voice acting on some characters is awful so sound gets 7 out of 10. Controls are good but not great and get 8 out of 10. Lifespan only gets a 5 out of 10 because it quickly gets old. overall 29 out of 40 which makes a good game but not a great game.

The Return of the Hedgehog
This is the best Sonic game yet! One of the best and newest feature is the teamplay in which you can switch characters to use their different abilites. Unfortunatley this limites the amount of multi-player missions you can do as in past titles player two played the part of Tails (Sonics sidekick). Maybe Sega and Sonic Team will come up with three player adventure mode... The four story modes, huge levels and amazing graphics promise to keep you hooked for hours on end! I went off Sonic for a while but this game totally rocks! I would recommend the Gamecube version as its pratically built for it.
To finish my review I say this: Enjoy the game!!
